Background

The amount of geese present in our area parks and golf courses has increased dramatically throughout the past few years.  Counting the number of geese present in various areas and researching possible reasons for their abundance may help us decide how to best minimize the population in urban areas.  According to Wisconsin Natural Resources Magazine, this is a problem that is occurring not only in our area, but throughout Wisconsin and the increasing number of geese are becoming a nuisance for leisure activities and present health concerns especially in concerns with other birds and lake water quality.  Previous studies helped us form our hypothesis: Canadian Geese are attracted to areas with open water, as the temperature decreases, the water freezes, and the geese move on to places unknown at this time.
