Background

Edgewood College commuters are major contributors to the amount of air pollution in the Wingra Watershed due to car emissions.  To see just how much they contributed, we conducted an email survey to get a sampling of commuters.  In the survey, we asked commuters what types of cars they drove, the year of manufacture, and how far they commute each day.  From this study we were able to determine how many tons of pollutants are emitted in the Wingra Watershed each year by each vehicle.  We also explored further implications of this resulting number and found numerous alternative solutions to reduce the amount of air pollution that our campus contributes to the Wingra Watershed.
