After looking at our graphs and the numbers we saw on the spreadsheets we discovered the following information:
We looked at levels that were anything over 500 for E. Coli and Enterococci, and fecal coli.
6-4-02
E Coli = 1733 MPN fecal coli = 1300 CFU Enterococci = 1046 MPN
Between March 2002 and June 2002 the total amount of geese in zone 8 was 192 and from December 2001 and February 2002 there were 123 geese. Rainfall = 1.43 inches and the water temperature 17.2 degrees Fahrenheit (cooler than usual). We were thinking that the rainfall could have washed the droppings from the geese into the water.
7-5-02
E Coli = 530 MPN fecal coli = 570 CFU
No rainfall on this date or around this date. We found no correlation.
7-8-02
E Coli = 921 MPN fecal coli = 680 CFU
The water temperature was normal. There was no rainfall around this date at all. There were however many swimmers.
7-1 = 42 swimmers
7-2 =45 swimmers
7-3 = 45 swimmers
7-7 = 30 swimmers
7-8 = 45 swimmers
The number of swimmers could have contributed to the high levels of bacteria.
7-19-02
fecal coli = 540 CFU
7-22-02
fecal coli = 540 CFU
7-23-02
E Coli = 579 MPN Fecal coli = 960 CFU
There was no rainfall until the 22nd of July and that was .5 inches.
8-8-02
E Coli = 1046 MPN Fecal coli = 1200 CFU
There was no rainfall at all and the water temperature was normal.
