Methods
Samples were collected based on…
o Major snowfalls this winter season.
o The distribution of road salt used after each snowfall.
o Melting of snow and ice that drained into the retention pond.
Three samples were taken from different corners of the pond (FIGURE 1).
Samples were taken to gain an understanding of chloride levels in the retention
pond before snowfall began.
All water samples were sealed tightly and kept in a refrigerator until testing.
Each sample was tested twice.
To test our samples before snowfall the Hach® 8-P (low range) test was used.
After snowfall the Hach® CD-51 test was used to get more accurate results.
Results were then averaged and graphed.
