Abstract:
Over the years, the Giant Canada Goose has gone from near extinction to
flourishing and adapting to urban areas across North America. The geese
population has been steadily increasing at Vilas Park in Madison, Wisconsin and
has reached a point of conflict between humans and geese. We studied the
goose population in Vilas Park to determine possible trends that occur due to
landscape modifications as well as the location of the particular area (i.e.
isolation, human presence) in Vilas Park. We counted geese in designated zones
of Vilas Park on random days in October and November, and compared this data
with previous data to find trends. We focused on goose population in
nine zones that make up the park. We hypothesized which zones would have
higher populations and which zones would have lower populations.
