INTRODUCTION TO EARTH SCIENCE I GEOS 102F5

▪ Rocks & Minerals The first of a two-semester sequence in the study of the major physical materials, processes and features of the earth, its oceans and its atmosphere, and of how these are investigated. The course focuses on the more traditional aspects of geology including: rocks and minerals, land forms, seismology, plate tectonics, flooding, groundwater, and the geologic time scale. This course is designed to provide a better understanding of how a growing human population is increasingly affected by natural phenomena that are hazardous or influence economic development. The course will also provide the students with what questions to ask when matters of private concern or public policy (for example, devastating effects from earthquakes, volcanoes, groundwater pollution) contain an important geologic component. Prerequisites: placement into ENG 110; placement into college-level mathematics; 4 credits. GEOS 102F5 is a prerequisite for GEOS 103F5.
